Robert Andino gets Robbed.

Robert Andino was my hero for a night. Tuesday night, he unexpectedly hit a bomb in the 10th inning to give the Marlins their first win in only their second game. In doing so, he singled handedly won 5% of my predicted 20 games the Marlins will win this season. Unfortunately for him, his day didn’t end on the highest of notes.

After the game, Andino’s wife called him to inform him that their house was about to be broken into. Not much information was given afterwards, except that everything seems to be okay.

Moises Alou Changes his Mind.

Thankfully for me, my team wasn’t on the shitty end of this play, so I still excite at the very thought of Steve Bartman blocking that baseballs path from entering Moises Alou’s glove. Everyone remembers a pissed off Alou throwing his glove down, and his statements afterwards claiming he most certainly would’ve caught the ball. But now, almost five years later, Alou has changed his tune, basically saying that he wouldn’t have caught the ball.

Looking at the above image, you can see the ball was clearly heading straight for his glove. I don’t necessarily blame Bartman for the Cubs’ collapse, but I also don’t agree with those who say "anyone would’ve done the same thing." I’ve been to multiple games, sitting along the first base line, and even in the first inning of a game in April, I am moving out of the way so my first baseman can have a clear shot of it. Granted, I have a bigger mental capacity and more quick reasoning skills than your average Bartman, but it isn’t that hard to try and avoid a live play.

I guess the years of heckling are really getting to him. Either way, I don’t really give a shit, because the Fish got the ring.

Marlins Win!!!!!!

Posted on April 1st, 2008 in Florida Marlins by bstew

After yesterday’s opening game, I thought the Fish would be lucky to win 20 games this season, but Robert Andino (???) just hit a 10th inning ding dong to give the Marlins a 5-4 win against the Mets. We’re going to the f*cking World Series!!!

Okay, maybe not, but damn it feels good to beat the Mets. Really good.

The Marlins Manatees are Okay.

Posted on April 1st, 2008 in Florida Marlins by bstew

I really don’t have much interest in the Marlins Manatees, but after all the devotion given to it in the blogosphere this offseason, I was mildly excited to catch my first glimpse of the blubber covered “dancers”. My girlfriend got me sweet tickets to the game directly above first base, but of course, the Manatees did their dance down the third base line, for only one section to vomit to. I couldn’t see much of them except for on the Jumbotron, but shockingly, they were fatter than I expected.

So, overall, I think the Manatees were okay. Since there is truly nothing to watch on the field for the home team fans, I believe the Manatees will see lots of success.

Will someone PLEASE get yesterday’s video on Youtube?!

It’s Opening Day!

Hope to see everyone at the ballpark. Here’s to Hanley Ramirez taking home this year’s National League MVP!

Thus Ending a Decent Run.

Posted on March 24th, 2008 in Miami Hurricanes by bstew

I started writing this post with 10 minutes left in the game, while trailing Texas by about 18 points, so the tone of this will be different from the original message.

First of all, hats off the Hurricanes basketball. That team was picked by many to finish last place in the ACC, but ended up being one of only four ACC teams making it to the tournament. I can’t give enough praise to the overall season this team had.

Similarly, you have to love the job Coach Haith did with this team. The bottom line is that these guys aren’t that talented, and they are extremely inconsistent, so to get within three points of the Sweet 16 is astonishing.

That said, I can’t help but playing the "what if" game after we came back and only lost by three points.

What if the team didn’t get lazy from 10 minutes left in the first half to 5 minutes left in the game and played hard D and avoided stupid turnovers?

What if the ‘Canes put a hand up in those shooters’ faces ONE TIME so they missed just ONE MORE three pointer?

What if we didn’t drive to the lane on multiple occasions, only to throw the ball off the backboard and hope for the foul call?

What if, when down by three points with 1 second left, we didn’t throw a 90 yard pass, making it impossible to mathematically tie the game?

What if we didn’t have a couple starters who literally have not done one productive thing for the team all season?

What if? What if? What if?

If just one of these issues went our way, we are looking at a Stanford team this week that is certainly beatable. But as it is, we should be happy we made it this far, and look forward to the amazing talent we will be welcoming next year.

Heat Score 54.

I’m a die hard Heat fan. Even a few weeks ago, when the Heat were 99% out of the playoff race, I continued to watch games intently. Now, it’s impossible. All the players worth watching aren’t playing, and the Heat officially began the tanking process weeks ago.

Last night, the Heat scored a total of 54 points to lose to the Raptors by 42. A TOTAL of 54!!! Basketball teams should not score less than football teams, especially those that play in the NBA.

After this year of Miami sports, I am on suicide watch.

Jason Taylor on Dancing with the Stars.

Posted on March 18th, 2008 in Miami Dolphins by bstew

For the last season of Dancing with the Stars, I vowed to not waste one post on the show, what with Mark Cuban and Helio Castreneves dancing around the stage like little douches. But last night, as per my mom’s request, I watched the show, so I could see one of my man crushes, Jason Taylor. I realized how gay I truly was when one of the judges made a somewhat negative comment and I took offense to it, yelling “Oh that’s bullshit!” to the TV in front of my girlfriend. So, uh, I guess this is me coming out of the closet. So, um, I’m a huge effin’ homo. Later.

Brackets are Out!

Posted on March 17th, 2008 in Miami Hurricanes by bstew

Aside from Super Bowl Sunday, this is my favorite time of the year. Nothing is better than this coming Thursday through Sunday. What’s even better is when your brackets are still alive for the second weekend of play.

On a personal note, I couldn’t be any happier with the seeding of the Hurricanes. I wanted a 7 or 10 seed more than anything, which I got, in arguably the worst of the four regions.

At first glance, the match ups seems pretty fair. I haven’t paid too much attention to them yet, but I think I’m going to keep it conservative with a UCLA-Kansas finals. I foresee UNC also making it to the Final Four, and Memphis being the only 1 seed to not make it, possibly being upset by Pitt. But what do I know about this stuff? (nothing).

Bon Voyage!

Unfortunately, MiamiSportsBlog will be uneventful this week, as I will be cruising throughout the Caribbean and drinking pina coladas all day and night. I leave Monday and come back Friday morning. As I will be out of touch with all reality, I’m sure I’ll miss a ton of information, but come Friday and the rest of the weekend, I will be in full force again.

See you all on Friday.
