Our Future…

…well, as much as an offensive lineman can be the future. Great touch that this clip is against the Gaytors. (Yeah, I went there).

Could Jake Long be any F*cking Larger?

The Dolphins have signed Jake Long as the first pick of the NFL draft to a contract that is really effing big. Like $30 millski guaranteed big. As a die hard ‘Phins fan for all of my 26 years, I must say the only thing I am disappointed about with this signing is how anticlimactic it has made Saturday for me. It comes down to longevity. In an especially weak draft (we’ve been saying that a lot lately, huh?), I will take that guy you know with certainty is going to give you 10+ solid years and is good for at least six Pro Bowls. The idea of McFadden was cute, but is the guy a QB or an RB? And once he moves to RB and the threat of not throwing is gone, will be be able to succeed? My guess is, yes, he will be pretty good. But a lot of RBs nowadays are pretty good. It comes down to the line you are running behind. And without the addition of Jake Long, Run DMC isn’t going anywhere in Miami. Should he go to Dallas, he’ll run all day on that turf… for a few years. Then his career will slide as most 27-year-old RBs do. All in all, I am happy with this pick. Here’s to doubling last years win total! Cheers.

Reagan Mauia Arrested.

Posted on April 11th, 2008 in Miami Dolphins by bstew

Miami Dolphin, Reagan Mauia, was arrested after punching a man at a bar in South Florida (actually, a pretty sweet bar that I have frequented many, many times.

Blurb:

“the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Carolina Ale House, located at 2618 Weston Road, just before midnight. Mauia, 23, punched a man in the face, ‘causing the victim to pass out and fall to the ground,’ according to the affidavit.”

Just as Mauia was driving away, someone snapped a picture of his license plate, which the cops used to get his address and arrest him later in the night. Jackass.

Bill Buckner Throws the First Pitch at Fenway?

I’m not buying it. No fucking way. If Ray Finkle comes back to Dolphins Stadium to take place in a bullshit ceremonial tribute, he’s done.

Jason Taylor on Dancing with the Stars.

Posted on March 18th, 2008 in Miami Dolphins by bstew

For the last season of Dancing with the Stars, I vowed to not waste one post on the show, what with Mark Cuban and Helio Castreneves dancing around the stage like little douches. But last night, as per my mom’s request, I watched the show, so I could see one of my man crushes, Jason Taylor. I realized how gay I truly was when one of the judges made a somewhat negative comment and I took offense to it, yelling “Oh that’s bullshit!” to the TV in front of my girlfriend. So, uh, I guess this is me coming out of the closet. So, um, I’m a huge effin’ homo. Later.

Trent Green isn’t Retiring until his Head Literally Falls Off

Just a few days ago, Trent Green was cleared to return to the game that almost caused his dome to go flying into the upper level early in the 2007 NFL season. Surprisingly, Green has decided to stay in the game, and look for another game. You really have to feel for his wife, who will be in charge of spoon-feeding and ass-wiping duties, should God forbid Green take another hard hit to the head. This is just a dumb ass decision.

Favre in Miami? My Fingers are Crossed.

Not so fast, Kimosabe. If I know Brett Favre (which I don’t), he definitely wants to come back. Regardless of how bad the NFC was last season (and don’t tell me the NFC is better because one of its teams one the Super Bowl), he got a team of misfits to the NFC Championship game, after an awful previous season. Brett still has some life left in him.

The only question is "Will Brett come to a team coming off a 1-15 season?" Methinks no, but if Favre thinks he’s got two more years in him, then why not? He’s not going to have a guaranteed shot at starting with any true Super Bowl contender for next year, and he already has a ring, so it’s not like he wants to be sitting on the bench for his last season, hoping to ride someone else’s wing to another ring. GM Ron Wolf is consulting in Miami, so you never know what could happen. If the ‘Phins can manage to land a sweet WR in the offseason, and make some draft picks that will materialize in less than two years, this rumor can certainly be a reality.

As a die hard Dolphins fan, I would love to see this happen. It would be nice to see some consistent QB play again. My fingers are crossed.

When Will Football Season Come?

Posted on February 28th, 2008 in Miami Dolphins, Miami Hurricanes by bstew

I can’t handle this torture. I want to go in a self-induced coma and wake up for ‘09 football season, mostly to see these new ‘Canes boys on the field, and slightly to see how the ‘Phins are progressing, but that will take a bit longer, I believe (’10 maybe?).

Hurricanes basketball blew what would’ve been a great comeback last night at Clemson. There’s only a few more games left until the ACC tournament. Pray that they give us something to cheer for throughout March…

Something to Write about, Finally

The Dolphins: So, I didn’t really cover the Zach Thomas trade. I’m not sure why we traded so many guys without trying to get any value from them, but we’re going to have some serious cap room coming up. As of right now, we don’t know what sort of results Bill Parcells will have in Miami, but you have to applaud his decision to take the bull by the horns and do what needed to be done to this team, essentially, to create a new one.

The Heat: Ugh. The other night against Houston, the commentator said it best when he said "Dwyane Wade is like Michael Jackson with a bunch of Tito Jackson’s running around out there."

Hurricane Basketball: The huge win against Duke last Wednesday was by far the most exciting college basketball I attended. After that win, then whooping up on Maryland on Saturday, we should make it to the tourny. I’d like to see us win a couple games in the ACC tournament, and preferably get top four seed in the ACC so we get a first round bye, but a good showing in the ACC tourny will get us a good seed in the big tourny.

Hurricane Baseball: Most people don’t even realize that baseball season started. The Hurricanes are number 2 in the country and just swept Cincy to start the season. We have the Gaytors coming up this weekend. See ya in Omaha!

Jason Taylor on Dancing with the Stars

Jason Taylor is going to become the first active NFL player to appear on "Dancing with the Stars", which will aire from March through May.

Blurb:

“It was an opportunity that really couldn’t be passed up,” said Taylor’s agent, Gary Wichard. “The tough part was talking Jason into it. But he will be a competitor and do what he can do.”

The show runs from March through May. Even if Taylor, 33, advances to the finals, he finish well in advance of training camp. Taylor will promote the appearance on Thursday’s airing of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Kill…me…now.
