Everyone Loves Shaq, Except Me
I can’t truly commentate on the Suns-Lakers game from last night, because I was away from the TV watching Miami beat Duke. From what I heard in the first half from Tommy O, Shaq was getting worked, doing nothing to put his team into position to win the game.
Eventually, Shaq finished with 15 points and 9 boards, not bad numbers, but certainly not numbers worthy of his contract. ESPN and all the quote, unquote experts are all over him, saying we were all wrong and that he can run with the offense.
People, it’s called motivation. The guy was like semen at a strip club. Of course he was going to run all over the place and be hyped up when he finally got his chance. For the record, I never said Shaq would be a total disgrace in Phoenix. I actually do envision him putting up 15-10 nights consistently, but:
1. those numbers are not worthy of the type of deal he has,
2. those types of numbers are not enough to put PHO over the top, because:
3. Shawn Marion was putting up much better numbers than that.
If Marion was on PHO last night, I give the Suns the nod.
Shaq is going to progressively slow down but throw in 20-12 type nights periodically, and the Suns have a shot at winning it all, but they also had a damn good shot at winning it all before the big man arrived in town, being that they were number 1 in the West.
