Shawn Marion - Thumbs Up
Alright Heat fans, what exactly are we rooting for? Shawn Marion’s performance yesterday against the Lakers was very good. The Heats response to the new style of play was even better. If this trade happened two months ago, I would say we had a great shot at making the playoffs. But as it is right now, we have to go the rest of the season with losing about five games at most to get the eighth seed of the East.
I was kind of shocked by how well the Heat played yesterday, and there is no doubt in my mind that we would’ve won the game had Haslem not missed it with injury. It was fun to see us running down the court, and to see how surprised the players were to be hit with such quick passes on fast breaks. (I almost forgot what a fast break looked like during the Shaq era).
Also, often overlooked in the trade was point guard Marcus Banks. I didn’t know much about him before we got him, but he is quick, seems to have a decent shot, but just needs to work on his passes. I would like to see him start a game soon, though. I’m done with Jason Williams at this point. For the first time in my life, I saw a player pull up for a three pointer on a 5-on-1. Yes, a 5 on frickin’ 1!!! He clanked it so bad that it hit off the rim and went out of bounds. It came at a time that two points would’ve kept us close to a one score game, but right after it, LA went on a huge scoring run. Not to be overshadowed, Williams also popped a two point shot up on a 3-on-1 earlier in the game, another shot he missed. Normally, if a guy does this every once in a while, I can handle it. But he’s the POINT GUARD!!! His job is to set everyone else up and run the court. How do you not get an assist on a 5-on-1?!
Anyways, overall, the Heat played well. With Haslem in there, another point guard, and some better shooting, this team can be a force. I just can’t imagine rooting for a draft pick halfway through the season (especially when you have one of the best players in the league on your team). What a mess.

Shawn Marion sucks, and was only decent because Steve Nash gave him open looks and dunks. Marion looked lost when he had to create his own shot. The best thing about Marion will be when his contract comes off the books.
But what do I care, I’m a Magic fan. HA!
