The Patriots = Al Qaeda’s Team

Posted on December 30th, 2007 in Other Sports by bstew

Just thought I would point this one out. I’ve watched quite a bit of football in the past three weekends, and thus far, the Patriots are the only team I’ve seen not wearing a number 21 sticker on their helmet, in honor of Sean Taylor, since his death. Many teams are wearing two stickers in honor of Taylor and others, but the Pats are just wearing 91.

The Pats are one of the most hated teams right now. Yeah, they cheated a few times in the beginning of the season. Big deal, they were blowing those teams out anyways. This one is just heartless.

I’m sure there’s a bogus excuse out there for this and someone will point it out to me, but I just don’t see any justification for this one.

Orange Bowl for Sale

The Orange Bowl will live one month longer than we expected! The last time it will be used for an official game will be in the first week in January, so I assumed it would be torn down shortly after that, like 10 minutes after the final whistle, regardless whether or not everyone made it off the field.

Eh, I was going to run through the list of items you can buy, but I really don’t feel like it.

The Herald has it all here.

I have my eyes on a locker, but I’m assuming they are all going to be a fortune, and if anything, I’ll get stuck with number 77’s locker or something.

The urinals are are such a gimmick for a good story. They will sell a couple to some creeps, but if they really wanted to escalate sales exponentially, they might want to think of putting little pictures of Shalala in them.

Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots Recap

patriots-dolphins.jpg

Wow, a Wednesday recap from a Sunday game, what gives? Sorry, it’s the holidays! I’m on vacation and will be for the next week and a half.

So, going into Sunday, I was pretty excited for the 4 o’clock matchup between the Patriots and Dolphins. Realistically, I knew we didn’t have a shot. I’m the type of homer who predicts any Miami team to win any game. I don’t care what the circumstances are; I will find a reason why we will win. But on Sunday, for the first time in my life, I knew there was no chance. However, the Dolphins played surprisingly well. If Cleo Lemon wasn’t such a f*cking moron, the ‘Phins actually could’ve handing the Pats their first loss of the season!

My beef with Lemon stems for three different reasons:

1. Miami is down 28-0 with just under one minute left in the second half with first and goal. At this point, I would say to purposely waste a bit of time, so we don’t score too quickly and give NE the ball back with a chance to win. But what does Cleo do? He spikes the ball! This is the kind of moronic activity you can’t fix. If a guy who has reached the NFL isn’t capable of figuring this out now, then it’s hopeless.

2. Fourth and goal from the half yard line. Yeah, you remember the play. Cleo is running for the endzone, and instead of reaching for the goal line as he’s going out of bounds, he does nothing! I don’t know if he was just being cocky, or if he’s just an idiot. I’m assuming it’s the latter. Oh, and how about the play before this one, when there wasn’t a defender in sight on the right side of the field, and he could’ve crawled into the endzone, but instead passed and it skipped two times before it even reached his receiver.

3. This was just an overall observation, but when your offensive line is consistently giving you four seconds to throw, and you consistently get sacked, that’s on the QB.

Just on the few aforementioned bonehead plays, this game should’ve been 28-21, putting Miami right in the game. But as it is, New England remains undefeated with a game against a Giants team playing for nothing. Damn.

Grizzlies Fan Arrested for Flashing Jumbotron

The title pretty much gives this story away. I’ve been to many Marlins and Heat games where people try and surprisingly get their middle finger on the Jumbotron, but this girl takes the cake.

Hey, at least there was finally some excitement at a Grizzlies’ game.

Canes’ Running Backs are Sick

Posted on December 24th, 2007 in Miami Hurricanes by bstew

A friend of mine sent me an email this morning saying this:

najeh davenport

clinton portis

willis mcgahee

frank gore

dj williams

I asked, "What’s the deal with this?"

He said, "thanks to willie parker’s injury, 5 running backs from the ‘01 Canes’ roster will be starting in the NFL this week:"

At first when I think of this feat, I admire how truly incredible that ‘01 team was. But shortly after, depression sets in. I know after the team of the ’80s, no one thought we could assemble another team like that, and we did. But I’ll say this right now: no college football team will ever be as good as the ‘00 and ‘01 Canes were. No chance.

Dwyaaaaaaaane Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaade

Admitedly, I was unable to watch last night’s Heat game against Utah, as I am currently in South Carolina and the game wasn’t shown here. However, I followed it on Gamecast and was so anxious at the thought of D. Wade getting the chance to hit a game winner. Then the final score comes up, 104-102, no time left on the clock, and I went nuts. Until I just saw a replay of the shot on Sports Center just now, I never could’ve imagined how difficult of a shot it was. From 20 feet away, Wade pump fakes but fails to draw the foul, then puts up an off-balanced jumper and gets the bounce. D. Wade beat Utah just like he did three years ago.

Maybe this the spark we needed to get going. Miami fans, realize this, we are only four games behind the 8th seed in the playoffs and only six games behind the third seed! This season is far from over. D. Wade has been putting up 35 points per game consistently in the past few games. He’s money. We just need everyone else to wake up.

Oh, and how sweet were the throw backs? I would give anything for the Heat to play the rest of the season in the old school unis.

Friday’s Miami News

FAU:

FAU is playing in the New Orleans Bowl tonight against Memphis tonight. I say FAU takes this one. Memphis played pretty well in the past few years, but this season finished with a 7-5 record after playing nobody and escaping close games. Granted, FAU didn’t have the toughest of schedules either, but they should be heavily motivated to win this game.

And how can we not root for Schnell? This is the man that started it all at the University of Miami.

Zo:

Zo is out for the season, and likely his career. This injury hurts more than anybody in Miami aside from D. Wade or Jason Taylor. Zo is the heart and sole of this Heat team. In the only game I have seen live this season, Zo was the only player motivated to win throughout. I just hope this team can stick together despite this.

Panthers: The Panthers are finally above .500 and right in the mix for the post season!

Heat:

For the first time I’ve ever seen, a team will probably win a protest as the Heat will probably need to play against Atlanta since Wednesday night’s game will probably be abolished. With 51 seconds left in the game against the Hawks, Shaq was whistled for his fifth foul, but the scoring crew had it as his sixth. Apparently, there was a disputed foul with 3:24 left in the fourth in which Udonis hacked a Hawk, and even though the ref called Udonis for the foul, the scorers gave it to Shaq. Video evidence after the game showed that Udonis was clearly the fouler. Miami ended up tying to game and sending it to OT, after which they lost by six points.

By league rules, you must file a protest within 48 hours of the dispute, as well as pay $10,000 that is nonrefundable if you lose the challenge.

What is still unknown is how the Heat are so bad that they have lost to Atlanta twice in this still young season?

Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots

Tool.

T minus 48 hours until the kickoff in Foxborough. I try not to think about recent experiences of the ‘Phins in New England, because all I picture is snow and bad luck.

At this point, it would take one of the greatest sports miracles of all time for the Dolphins to pull this victory out. Therefore, two things on Sunday will make me happy:

1. The Dolphins win, ending the Pats chance of destroying the 1972 ‘Phins sole possession of history.

2. The Dolphins get blown out, and Tom Brady or Randy Moss get hurt. I’m not a malicious person, I’m not talking career ending injury, I just know that Belichick will have his starters in for the majority of the game, regardless of the score, and I think he needs to pay (preemptively).

I would trade my next five Christmas for a Dolphins victory on Sunday.

Santas Brawl

Do you think anyone thought having 100+ Santas on the ice during a hockey game was a bad idea? Just when you thought this fight couldn’t get any better, midget Santa comes out swinging. Brilliant!

The Big Tuna is now a Big Dolphin

Blah, blah, blah, Bill Parcells is the new Executive VP of the Miami Dolphins. Sorry I’ve been so late to get to this story, but I’m on vacation, and don’t find myself around a computer all too often. As a Dolphins’ fan, my first reaction to this was a bad one; just another attempt at the Dolphins trying to hit a homerun by getting a big name guy. But then I started thinking more about this, errr, forcing myself to like the decision, and come up with some reasons why this is a great decision.

1. Parcells was a great coach in the ’80s and early ’90s, but since then, he’s been a consistently average coach. My beef with Parcells is that although he’s always been a great coach and all around football guy, he hasn’t adapted to the personalities of new age professional athletes, and hasn’t been able to relate with anyone in the least bit. I’ve always said about the guy, if he could run the team without any personal bonds with players, he could work out.

2. Parcells knows how to build a team. The only question is whether or not the ‘Phins organization is going to give him the time necessary to do it. If Parcells wants to be, he can be patient and can rebuild. The only problem is that given his history, he doesn’t stick around long enough to get his team going. This upcoming draft is going to be a forecast of his time spent in Miami. If he can force another team to trade up for the ‘Phins number 1 overall draft pick, he can build a solid unit on both the offensive and defensive lines and this team can be competitive three years from now. If he goes for the sexy pick, McFadden, he might leave halfway through his contract.

It’s not going to be easy getting a foolish team to take the number 1 pick. The NFL is in a terrible cycle of underachieving number 1 draft picks getting paid too much money. Teams are starting to realize this and that so much talent can be found in the later rounds.

Either way, how great is Parcells life going to be? He’s going to get paid shitloads of money, while avoiding the day to day headaches that come with the head coaching position. And, oh yeah, he’s going to live on the beach and probably own a ginormous yacht.

Life doesn’t suck for Bill Parcells.
