I’m donating HOW MUCH????
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson donated $1 million to the University of Miami football program. This is the largest donation by a former athlete in school history.
The Rock, who made $4.5 million for both Doom and Be Cool, donated the cash in a large, unmarked duffle-bag as part of the U’s “Football Facilities Renovation Fund” so people like Kirk Herbstreit can stop bashing Miami’s facilities.
I love the donation, the rock makes between 5-10 mil per film, but damn… this is all we have? Where’s the Miami T. Boone Pickens? Dude gave 165 Million dollars to Okie State. By my math, that’s 165 times what The Rock just gave. Can’t we give Phil Knight an honorary doctorate? Then maybe he’ll throw The U a part of that sweet $100,000,000 he dropped on the Ducks.
The Miami school of business has marble tops to the desks (yes, marble) yet we don’t have a fat-cat hedge fund manager who can write a check for new free weights? No, Miami has to hope a supporting-cast football player becomes a professional wrestler who then parlays that into a headlining gig in Hollywood.
The timing of this donation to coincide with the release of The Gameplan is a bit eerie. Maybe the check didn’t come from The Rock, but from good ‘ol Uncle Walt (Disney). Yeah, scandal!
I don’t care where it came from, but man, can we just get a bigger check? Miami doesn’t need nine digits… just eight. Is $10 million so much to ask?
That said, go see The Gameplan it looks riveting.

Man, the Rock is relatively frugal with his dough cause he had some hard times before he made it big, — CFL job for 30,000/yr, etc. He probably will give more down the line.

Yeah, this was nothing against The Rock. I thought the donation was great. It was more than generous, I just have to think there is someone more well-off that we can be going to for football donations. Are there no billionaire Hurricane alums?

brody, check your sources, i think you left off a few zeros. last i heard, the Rock’s donation was in the billions, if not trillions.
Shalala will probably have us believe this donation is directly correlated to the move to Dolphins’ Stadium.
