Miami In SportsNation Chat 9/18
We here at MSB love reading SportsNation Chats, but it can be a real pain sifting through all those questions about teams that don’t mean anything like Notre Shame.
Some interesting stuff in today’s chats. Ronnie Brown’s suckage, trading JT, Trent Green getting the hook, and… of course… THE ROCK.
So here’s the So Fla-Centric look at the day in ESPN.com Sportsnation Chats:
Scroll down…
Chat With Todd McShay: C. One, Spur, Texas: It’s the Aggies vs. the Canes on Thursday night in the OB. What should we expect from this game? Will Mike Goodson announce his presence to the nation? Who do you like to win the game?
Todd McShay: It’s an interesting game because it puts A-M in a can’t-win situation. Oklahoma blew the doors off Miami a couple weeks ago. Everyone assumes Miami is a mess and rebuilding. But playing in the Orange Bowl on national TV in a Thursday night game, is a much different deal that getting the Canes at home like Oklahoma did. While I think A-M will eventually wear Miami down and win by making fewer mistakes, you know Miami’s defense is going to bounce back and make this a close contest. I also think Kyle Wright will play the best game of his career because he knows this is his final shot to maintain the starting job.
Chat With The Rock:
Oliver (Scranton, PA): How much did you remember back to your own football days to help you with this movie?
Dwayne ”The Rock” Johnson: Good question. Playing football for the U helped me tremendously in terms of retaining a little bit of football ability. I was able to carry that over into the movie.
al (Florida): Rock, important question here. You’re starting to be in more and more movies, so what are we supposed to call you? The Rock? Dwayne Johnson? D-Jo? D-John? What? Help me out!
Dwayne ”The Rock” Johnson: I want you to call me ‘’sir”. But since you’re a Floridian like myself, you can call me DJ.
Nick (NJ): What are your favorite NFL teams? Do you have any friends in the NFL? How bout T.O.?
Dwayne ”The Rock” Johnson: My favorite NFL team is my hometown Miami Dolphins (you better not laugh). And any teams that have players I played with on - Oakland Raiders (Warren Sapp), Ravens with Ray Lewis.
Scott (Cleveland): What happened to the U? a couple of years ago they were one of the most dominant college football team around, now they struggle to get to .500. Will they ever get that swagger back, or did the Gators take all thier mojo?
Dwayne ”The Rock” Johnson: That’s the million dollar question, amigo. I anticipate a great game, this Thursday against Texas A+M. After an ass-kicking like that, that we got from Oklahoma, two things will either happen…either they won’t recover psychologically and the rest of the season goes down the drain. Or, they’ll rebound and learn from their mistakes and have an outstanding rest of the season. Randy Shannon was my coach when I was at Miami. I believe in him and our players, and I gaurantee (and I always get in trouble when I gaurantee things in sports) win, lose or draw, my ‘Canes are going to whoop some Aggie ass and slap some lips off their faces.
G-Money, Miami: How often do you get down to Miami and are you still hooked on the Chicken Kitchen?
Dwayne ”The Rock” Johnson: Hell yeah, G-Money! I’m still a South Florida boy. But you have to now try chicken grill, brother. I believe it’s the same owners and Chicken Kitchen, only they serve up brown rice as well as yellow. Keep it real, 305.
Chat With Scouts Inc’s Steve Muench:
Ralph, Pittsburgh: Penn St is called “LB U”. With Booger McFarland, Gabe Northern, Chuck Wiley, Chad Lavalais, Claude Wroten, Kyle Williams, Marcus Spears, (the late) Marquise Hill all having played in the NFL, and Tyson Jackson, Glenn Dorsey, Marlon Favorite and Charles Alexander all sure to be NFLers soon, is it safe to call LSU “Defensive Lineman U”?
Steve Muench: You make a strong argument Ralph. Miami’s put out some preety good d-linemen too.
Fantasy Sports With Matthew Berry:
Jaremy: Do i stick with Ronnie Brown or trade for Ladell Betts and anthony Gonzalez, they seem to have more upside in my mind?
Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto: Yeah, this is one of those cases where you are selling low but he’ll probably still go lower, so get somethign while you can. I’d do that deal.
Thomas Jones (New York): Can I put up 100 yards rushing against Miami???
Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto: Yes. TJ gets going this week.
George (nyc): almighty one, you were right about lj, i took him 4th….also took ronnie brown and cadillac….is it time for me to pull the plug on ronnie brown and start cadillac alongside of lj and keep my fingers crossed?
Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto: Thank you! At least someone remembers the good calls too…Yes on Ronnie - but I actually like Caddy. Right now you have to just grin and bear it with LJ. His sked gets easier after wk 4…
Al Toon (Wisconsin): Is Ronnie Brown going to get 100 and a TD against a weak Jets D? Would you package him and D.Jackson for MJD?
Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto: I would do that deal, yes. And no, no 100 for RB vs NYJ
Chat With Bruce Feldman:
Chad (Los Angeles, CA): Any reason Oklahoma’s getting a free pass on their OOC schedule? Or does everyone just see Miami and assume it’s strong? (Even though this particular Canes team is average at best.)
Bruce Feldman: (4:25 PM ET ) It’s OK. Tulsa’s not an awful team..they were 8-5 last year. It’s much better than what Penn State is playing OOC.
Ty (College Station): How important is the thursday game between Miami and Texas A&M
Bruce Feldman: (4:50 PM ET ) Huge for both programs because of the national stage. Each are trying to get back on the national radar.
Scott (Boston MA): Your top 5 overachieving and top 5 underachieving schools.
Bruce Feldman: (4:27 PM ET ) Forde did a great story on this a few weeks back…
Bruce Feldman: (4:28 PM ET ) Underachieving historically over the last decade: ASU, Texas A&M, Clemson, Tennessee and not ready for 5..
Bruce Feldman: (4:29 PM ET ) Overachieving: Navy, BC, Texas Tech, TCU and last year Wake
Mark (Baton Rouge): How about FSU as the #5 underachieving team?
Bruce Feldman: (4:30 PM ET ) Sold!
Scouts Inc’s Matt Williamson:
Abe (Kansas City): Which QB gets the hook next?
Matt Williamson: Huard comes to mind, as I saw you are from KC. A couple more losses, then it is Croyle time. Who else? T Jackson is pretty bad. I do think Pennington’s days are numbered. Boller over McNair? Could happen eventually. T Green could make way for the rookie after a few more losses. Remember, Beck is an overaged rookie and Miami needs to act on him sooner than later.
Phil (Syracuse, NY): What’s the latest on Andre Johnson?
Matt Williamson: It doesn’t look like he is playing this week, but it also doesn’t seem like it is a long term injury. Houston would be doomed without him.
Jason (OH): Did you see the hit Laron Landry dished out last night….Can you say “The next Ronnie Lott”. The combination of him and Sean Taylor has got to scare receivers going over the middle.
Matt Williamson: You’re right. They are going to be lethal.
Jay (Boston): Any chance the Miami running game eventually comes together, or are they going to stay terrible?
Matt Williamson: Stay terrible. Bad OL. Bad OL.
D-Wade Miami, Fl: Is it Ronnie Brown or O-line? Should the dolphins be playing for Darren McFadden?
Matt Williamson: The OL is more to blame. Brown hasn’t made much yardage on his own either-don’t get me wrong. I still like Brown, but he is doomed this year. Play for Jake Long, not McFadden. Actually, Miami is going to have ALL kinds of DDay needs.
Majeed: M-Dub, Philly should trade McNabb to Chicago and Miami should deal JT and Zach. Agree?
Matt Williamson: Wow. Not yet on McNabb! Depends what Miami can get in return. Could really pay off with a ton of high draft picks. Miami is going nowhere. Philly still has a chance.
